Stralsund

Stralsund - City of the superlative!
In the last few years, Stralsund has given people something to talk about. In the year 2002 the old part of Stralsund town, as well as Wismar, were added to UNESCO‘s list of World Heritage Sites.

The old part of town was restored; the market place, with its numerous Cafés became inviting again, and many other attractions such as trips around the harbour and visits to the city theatre made the city the attractive visitor-friendly Hanseatic city it is today.

But the largest attraction is probably the largest German sea museum, the OZEANEUM, with many special exhibitions and a special area for children. The OZEANEUM can boast various superlatives:

  • Altogether 6 million litres of water, in which approx. 150 tons of salt are dissolved.
  • Largest aquarium: Fish shoal tank with a surface area of 300 square metres.
  • 39 aquariums, one of them being a tunnel aquarium.
  • 7.000 living animals, predominantly fish.
  • Useable built area: 8,700 square metres.
What Stralsund has to offer - at a glance:

  • a beautifully restored historical old town
  • a generous market place with many cafés
  • Brick gothic - stone witnesses of a long past: the city hall, the churches, the city walls and gates as well as magnificent domestic architecture. Take a look for yourself!
  • A good tip amongst sailing friends is the Wednesday regatta: a yardstick race. Everyone can take part, short notice registration is sufficient, subsequently an award ceremony is held.
