Angling
Eel, perch, cod, flounder, plaice and pike – these are fish varieties in Rügen’s waters which can be attracted by your bait. All waters around Rügen are considered to be coastal waters. Therefore a licence is necessary.
There are daily, weekly and yearly authorizations, which holidays guests can obtain in angling shops or also at the federal office for fishery in Rostock (Landesamt für Fischerei). Phone: (0381/405180).
There are also branch offices in Sassnitz, Lauterbach, Breege and Stralsund, where the licence can also be obtained directly.
Inquire at the hotel. We’re happy to help.
Driving
Most of the roads have been built as avenues (German Alleenstraßen). Because of the thick roof of leaves in the summer the roads can be, depending upon weather conditions, quite dark.
‘On Rügen with light’ is the recommendation from the road safety organization and police. Thus cyclists and accommodating cars are more easily seen on the quite narrow roads.
Bathing water quality
The bathing water quality around Rügen and Hiddensee is judged to be ‘very good’ to ‘good’.
These are the results of the institute for national hygiene, which carries out water tests every fourteen days from May to Septembers and its judgement is delivered according to the strict European Union guidelines.
Buses
Nearly all island locations on Rügen can be reached using the public transport network: RPNV. You can view the timetables before your holiday on the RPNV internet site or you can also inquire directly by telephone at the information Rügen public transport office:

Sand dune protection
The dunes - the first defences against storm floods, are strengthened by the beach grass.
Therefore entering the dunes is forbidden - they may only be crossed using the provided walk ways. Also building sand castles and other beach grass reducing activities can result in punishment.
Ferries
In order to avoid traffic jams, the drivers coming from the directions Stralsund and Samtens can use the Glewitzer ferry. The car and foot passenger ferries commute daily from 5:50 am to 9:00 pm between the mainland and Rügen and are often faster than crossing over the new bridge!
Flights
Who would like a bird’s eye view of Rügen for once, can do so from Güttin (seven kilometres southwest from Bergen on the B96) taking off from the airfield there. Starting from 10 o'clock daily, airplanes take off from Güttin for round-flights and photo-flights for three to six passengers.
